According to the Chinese lunar calendar, the lantern day is celebrated on the last day of the Chinese lunar year. It is a famous day from the Western Han Dynasty. Lantern Festival meetings give the Chinese youth both male and female a chance to get to know each other. In the past, Chinese marriages were normally decided by the parents or even by the political forces. So, the lantern festival meeting provided the young people there a glorious chance to select their life partners themselves. For this festival, the streets are decorated with flowers and lanterns where lovers meet. People usually get attracted and they may romance but normally these relationships are not long-lasting. The famous poet Ouyang Xiu wrote a poem about the girl that searches and craves for the young man he met at the lantern festival. The poems name was Yuan Xi.
